Pune: Residents of Keshavnagar have urged Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) commissioner Naval Kishore Ram to take immediate action on civic infrastructure, water supply and traffic problems in the area, saying that over 1 lakh residents continued to face problems despite paying property taxes.A delegation of the Keshav Nagar Welfare Association (KENWA) met Ram recently and submitted a memorandum listing the demands. Among the key ones is immediate inspection and rectification of the dangerous curve near the Kharadi-Keshavnagar bridge. The association sought demarcation of road boundaries, construction of proper footpaths and removal of encroachments near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk Y-junction towards Army Dairy and Z Corner. The association said the proposed Keshavnagar-Amanora underpass be prioritised and fast-tracked, emphasising that the link would provide an alternative route and help ease traffic bottlenecks.Water supply was another major concern raised by the residents. According to KENWA, around 60% of housing societies in the area do not have municipal water connections and are dependent on private tankers. The association said it placed a significant financial burden on residents and raised concerns over inconsistent water quality. The memorandum also highlighted traffic congestion at Lonkar Vasti Chowk, Bhoi Vasti X Chowk near Renuka Devi Temple, Manjari Road Chowk near Tukai Mata Temple and Mahatma Phule Chowk in Mundhwa. KENWA said commuters were taking 35-40 minutes to cover stretches of about 1km — affecting movement of school buses, daily commuters and emergency services. The association demanded greater transparency in civic works, including copies of approved work orders, mandatory display of project details by contractors at work sites and access for taxpayers to third-party quality audit reports.“Keshavnagar residents pay their municipal taxes faithfully, yet basic rights — including clean drinking water, safe roads and vital connectivity links like the Keshavnagar-Amanora underpass — remain unfulfilled,” KENWA director Sudhir Srivastav said. The association had previously submitted reminders to PMC and ward offices, urging the commissioner to take direct action on the issues, he added.KENWA has sought written confirmation from PMC and an official status update on corrective measures proposed for the area.
