Bengaluru: Kempegowda International Airport (KIA)’s Alfa taxiway is set to undergo resurfacing. Airport operator Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has invited a request for proposal (RFP) from external agencies to execute the project.Work on the elevated Western Crossfield Taxiway is already under way.Work will focus on milling the pavement to a depth of 55 to 60 millimetres across a 7-metre width, followed by the laying and compaction of an approved bituminous concrete mix design. To maintain seamless execution, asphalt production will begin in advance, and mix temperatures will be maintained during laying.BIAL will ensure that the process will be carried out, minimising airside disruptions and adhering to international aviation guidelines laid down by the DGCA, ICAO and FAA, alongside local environmental norms. To protect aircraft engines from foreign object debris, the site will undergo rigorous clearing using high-capacity air compressors and manual wire brushing before and after each operational window. All work will be paused during rain to guarantee long-term durability and structural quality before handing the taxiway back for active flight operations.
