Despite surgery and other medical interventions, his condition deteriorated and he was declared brain dead on Oct 23.The man is survived by his wife and a 12-year-old son studying in Class 7. After the hospital’s grief counsellor explained the organ donation process, the family took a day to process the loss before consenting to donation. The organs were retrieved on the morning of Oct 25. Both kidneys were sent to INU Hospital, the liver to Aster Hospital in Whitefield, heart to Aster CMI Hospital and both corneas to Minto Hospital. The corneal donations could help restore sight to two people, subject to transplant suitability and outcomes. The family’s decision has turned a personal tragedy into an opportunity to offer hope to patients awaiting transplants.
