Karnataka government extends DG-IGP Saleem’s tenure till Aug 2027

Bengaluru: The Siddaramaiah govt Thursday extended the tenure of director-general and inspector-general of police MA Saleem till Aug 29, 2027. A 1993 batch IPS officer, Saleem was to retire by May-end this year. The extension was made based on the directions of the Supreme Court, which in a previous case had directed states to ensure a minimum tenure of two years to police officer serving as DG-IGP.Known for his work in traffic management, Saleem was appointed as DG-IGP in charge of Karnataka, taking charge on May 21, 2025, from outgoing DG-IGP Alok Mohan. In Aug 2025, his appointment as the state police chief was regularised.
