The civic body also rolled out a mechanised cleaning system to strengthen sanitation operations. Five new litter pickup vehicles, purchased at a cost of Rs 55 lakh from municipal funds, have been deployed. Each vehicle has a capacity of 1,200 litre and can be operated by a driver and a helper.Additionally, eight Gobbler litter pickup vehicles, each with a capacity of 100 litre, have been inducted under the Smart City project’s CSR initiative. The compact vehicles are designed to clean narrow lanes and other areas where manual sweeping is difficult.Explaining the advantages of the new machines, JMC garage XEN Gopal Moond said, “Manual sweeping often raises dust and cannot remove fine waste completely. These vehicles use suction technology, so there is no dust, and even the smallest litter can be collected .”He added, “With manual cleaning, only a limited distance is covered, and the collected waste has to be loaded onto a tractor before being taken to the transfer station. These vehicles collect the waste directly and transport it to the transfer station through their built-in containers, making the process faster and more efficient .”Civic officials said the mechanised system is expected to improve cleaning efficiency while reducing dependence on manual sanitation work.
