According to the FIR, the owner awarded the renovation contract to a company, which engaged a contractor to demolish the property. The complainant alleged that around 15 gold kalash and other valuables were discovered during the demolition but were concealed and distributed among the contractor’s associates instead of being handed over to the family. The FIR claims the alleged cache included 40-45 kg of silver bars, 14-15 gold urns filled with gold coins, 8,000-10,000 old silver coins and other valuables. Police said these claims are yet to be substantiated.“The complainant learnt about the alleged discovery in April and initially submitted only a complaint. An FIR was registered after a preliminary inquiry,” Sharma said.Police said the complainant informed the contractor before demolition that any valuables or historical artefacts found during the work should be handed over to the family.A police officer said the preliminary inquiry indicated that the contractor distributed “something” among labourers after the demolition. “We are trying to ascertain what exactly was distributed, in what quantity and whether it was linked to the complainant’s allegations,” the officer said. The complainant told police he learnt about the alleged discovery from a labourer and later obtained photographs and videos that he claims support his allegations. Police said the authenticity of the visual evidence and the claim that a treasure was found and misappropriated are under verification.
