Bengaluru: Staying true to Infosys’ long-standing tradition of having one of its founders announce CEO successions, chairman Nandan Nilekani used a brief two-minute keynote at the company’s press conference in Bengaluru on Thursday to unveil the next chief executive, ending months of speculation over the succession plan. The early announcement, coupled with the choice of an insider, ensures the leadership transition will not distract Infosys from executing its AI transformation roadmap.Infosys appointed IIT Kharagpur alumnus Ashiss Kumar Dash as CEO-designate, choosing the 31-year company veteran to succeed Salil Parekh, whose more than nine-year tenure ends on March 31 next year. Dash will take charge on April 1, 2027.With Dash’s appointment, Infosys joins TCS, Wipro and HCLTech in promoting long-serving executives to the top job, reflecting the Indian IT industry’s preference for leadership continuity as companies navigate rapid AI-driven transformation.“The Board has appointed our next CEO. Ashiss is a true-blue Infoscion who has spent 31 years with the company. He has worked across delivery, sales and account management, and even helped set up our development centre in Bhubaneswar. He’s straightforward, focused and deeply committed to getting things done,” Nilekani said.Dash, currently based in the US, will relocate to India over the next few months. “During this period, he will undergo CEO coaching and from October 1, Salil will take him on as his mentee to prepare him for the role so that he is ready to lead a complex, $20-billion company during a very transformational time,” Nilekani added. He also said the board wanted a leader who could “drive bold transformation” while preserving the values and customer trust that have long distinguished Infosys.Dash, 54, is executive vice president and global head of services, utilities, resources, energy & enterprise sustainability. During his three decades at Infosys, he has held leadership roles across customer engagement, delivery and global operations. He has also completed the Global Leadership Program at Stanford University and received Rs 17.5 crore in compensation in FY26.Although the energy, utilities and resources (EUR) vertical contributes around 14% of Infosys’ revenue—well behind financial services—the company opted against an external CEO search. Dash emerged as the preferred candidate after an executive search firm’s assessment of Infosys’ internal leadership pool. Sources told TOI the shortlist included Anand Swaminathan, EVP and global head of communications, media & technology; Dennis Gada, EVP and global head of banking & financial services; Karmesh Vaswani, EVP and global head of consumer, retail & logistics; and Jasmeet Singh, EVP and global head of manufacturing.Dash has led several marquee client wins, including BP, Aramco and Shell. More recently, he played a key role in securing the nearly $300 million Lufthansa contract, under which Infosys renewed its IT partnership with the German airline and will establish a global capability centre in India.Phil Fersht, chief executive of HFS Research, said the appointment reflected “a very deliberate succession rather than a reactive leadership change,” signalling the board’s confidence in Infosys’ strategy and its desire to minimise disruption for clients and employees.
