How to tackle pollution? GNIDA to hire agency

Noida: Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) will hire a Project Management Unit (PMU) to strengthen the management of its urban and industrial areas, with pollution control among its key responsibilities.The last date for submitting bids is Oct 14, with bids scheduled to open on Oct 15.The consultant will deploy eight full-time experts at GNIDA offices to assess and strengthen existing pollution-monitoring mechanisms in line with Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) guidelines. The team will monitor implementation of pollution-control action plans and compliance with statutory requirements.CAQM’s action plan for Greater Noida recommends scientific management of road dust, mechanised sweeping, timely repair and redevelopment of roads, dust-suppression measures, restoration of utilities and maintenance of paved shoulders.It also calls for monthly workshops on road-dust control and effective implementation of road redevelopment projects. Other measures include scientific removal of legacy dust, proper sweeping, use of water sprinklers and anti-smog guns, and GPS-based reporting and monitoring.The PMU’s air-quality expert will need at least six years’ experience in govt scheme implementation, environmental studies, climate change and sustainability, and pollution control.The team is required to be in place within a month of signing the agreement. The contract will run for two years and can be extended by another two years based on performance.Spread across 95 sectors and 124 villages, Greater Noida will also rely on the PMU for planning, procurement, project monitoring and execution, besides strengthening institutional capacity.Meanwhile, Noida’s AQI improved to 268 on Monday from 281 on Sunday. Ghaziabad’s rose to 248 from 235, while Greater Noida’s increased to 171 from 150.
