Bengaluru: Parents of a young woman, who reportedly died in a hit-and-run accident on Bengaluru-Mysuru access-controlled highway near Channapatna in the wee hours of Oct 3, have approached police claiming it was a cold-blooded murder. What had happened?Around 3am on Oct 3, R Bhumika, a 21-year-old resident of Ramohalli, Kumbalagodu, died on the spot when a speeding sedan car knocked her down at Byrapatna junction on the highway. Hours before the accident, Bhumika was seen fighting with her friend Kiran at the same junction. She reportedly had called her car driver stating that Kiran and his brother Ashish had beaten her up.“After the fight, Bhumika rode pillion with a man on a gearless scooter on the service road. She returned home and was crossing the road when the sedan heading towards Mysuru rammed into her and sped away,” her driver Raghavendra PV stated in the complaint to Channapatna traffic police. But Saturday, Bhumika’s parents met senior cops, saying it was not a road accident. “Bhumika has been murdered and we request police to investigate the case in murder angle,” their petition read. However, investigation so far has revealed it was a hit-and-run case.“We have traced the car and its driver who knocked down Bhumika. He is a Mysuru resident. We found that he has no connection with Bhumika, Kiran or Ashish. Moreover, the CCTV footage shows how suddenly Bhumika walked onto the road, without thinking of vehicles. We are still probing the case from all angles,” an officer said.
