Bengaluru: Karnataka high court has posted to Tuesday a PIL seeking extension of the ongoing SIR in Karnataka by three months.The petition, filed by Kannada litterateur Devanooru Mahadeva, historian Ramachandra Guha, Major General (retd) SG Vombatkere and scholar Sabiha Bhoomigowda, also seeks some clarifications regarding rules formulated for the process.According to the petitioners, the information on record shows that administrative infrastructure deployed in Karnataka has not been commensurate with the scale of the exercise and suffers from inadequate numbers of voter facilitation centres, practical difficulties faced by electors in accessing assistance and heavy dependence on already overburdened BLOs.Appearing for the petitioners, senior advocate Vikram Huilgol said there is no clarity on absentee / shifted/dead/duplicate and others (ASDDO) category both in Election Commission of India’s published guidelines or written instructions provided to electors and BLOs.
