Chandigarh: Chandigarh Police has arrested a man for allegedly attempting to smuggle heroin in the city. The accused, Gulshan (32), is a resident of Bapudham Colony, Sector 26.A team from Sector-26 police station was on patrol in the Bapudham Colony area to keep a check on anti-social elements when they intercepted the accused near block No. 725 on suspicion.During the search, police recovered 11.56 grams of heroin from his possession. He was subsequently taken to the police station, where a case was registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.Police said the accused has a criminal background, with five previous cases registered against him under the Arms Act, as well as for dacoity, theft and NDPS violations.He was produced before a local court, which remanded him in police custody for further interrogation.Police are now probing the source of the contraband and the intended supply network, particularly in Bapudham Colony and adjoining areas.
