Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Administration on Wednesday carried out an early-morning demolition drive against unauthorised constructions on agricultural land in the peripheral area of Shastri Nagar village, Manimajra.During the operation, enforcement teams demolished 80 illegal structures, reclaiming approximately 6 acres of encroached farmland near the local meat market.The drive commenced at 7am, with inter-departmental teams assembling at the IT Park police station under the law-and-order supervision of SDM (east) and a DSP-level police officer commanding a large police contingent, including women constables.The demolition was executed by enforcement staff led by the tehsildar and naib tehsildar (periphery), supported by inspection personnel, workers, and trucks provided by the Estate Office.The tehsildar (revenue) remained on site with field staff, while the superintendent (store) supplied two excavators alongside drinking water for deployed personnel, with civil defence members providing additional support.As a precautionary measure, electricity and water connections across the targeted area were disconnected in advance by the SDOs concerned and the electricity circle.Reiterating its zero-tolerance policy, the administration affirmed that strict enforcement against unauthorised constructions and encroachments will continue across the city and peripheral green belts.
