HC orders Cyberabad civic body to halt illegal construction in public park

Hyderabad: The Telangana high court has ordered the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) to immediately stop any unauthorised construction allegedly being carried out on the land earmarked as a public park and open space at Suvarna Valley, RTC Colony (Laxmi Chandra Reddy Nagar), in Ameenpur.Justice B Vijaysen Reddy passed the interim directions while hearing a petition filed by the colony residents. The judge also directed the deputy commissioner of Ameenpur circle, Cyberabad, to submit a compliance report before the next hearing on Aug 7.According to the petitioners, private individuals encroached upon the layout’s designated park and open space by raising illegal and unauthorised constructions. “Despite repeated complaints submitted on July 1 and July 4 to the municipal authorities and a complaint lodged with HYDRAA, no effective action was taken,” their counsel, Sasidhar Kasireddy, informed the court.Sasidhar further argued that even after a field inspection by town planning officials reportedly confirmed the encroachment, the authorities failed to prevent or remove the illegal structures. The petitioners argued that the official inaction violated their constitutional rights and sought directions for demolition of the alleged unauthorised constructions and restoration of the park land for public use.During the hearing, the standing counsel for CMC sought time to obtain instructions from the authorities.Taking note of the allegations, the high court directed the authorities concerned to respond to the petition and also issued notices to the private parties accused of carrying out the construction and posted the matter to Aug 7 for further hearing.
