Chennai: DMDK general secretary Premallatha Vijayakant on Friday mounted a sharp attack on Tamil Nadu chief minister C Joseph Vijay and the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) govt, saying governance was “not cinema.” She asked the ruling party to deliver on its election promises instead of `watching movies.’“If a reel hero wants to become a real hero, the TVK govt must first fulfil its poll promises. Governance is not cinema. It is about the livelihood of crores of people,” she told reporters at Cuddalore when asked about the performance of TVK govt.Taking a swipe at ministers who queued up for the first day first show of CM Vijay’s film Jana Nayagan, she said the govt appeared more interested in cinema than addressing people’s concerns.Premallatha alleged that no major work had been taken up and no fresh tenders had been floated even for basic civic amenities. “We found during field inspections and interactions with the public that nothing is happening on the ground. No work has been taken up, and no tender has been floated to meet the basic needs of the people,’’ she said.“Governance is not about shooting reels or staging photo opportunities,” she said. Referring to the increase in rice prices, she claimed that the price had risen by nearly Rs 15,000 a tonne and urged the govt to intervene.Premallatha raised the issue of the recent custodial death in Tuticorin, saying such incidents continued to recur despite repeated outrage. “The police have no right to assault anyone. If a person is accused of a crime, police should arrest them and produce them before a court. Custodial deaths must end,” she said.
