Gujarat University conducts PhD entrance test; GTU exam today

Ahmedabad: After a prolonged delay, Gujarat University (GU) finally conducted its PhD entrance test on Saturday in a peaceful manner.Of the 1,239 candidates registered for the GU entrance test, 1,126 appeared, while 113 remained absent. The university recorded an attendance rate of around 90.9%.While PhD admission processes at several other universities in the state have already been completed, GU had to postpone its exam due to delays in document verification.Sources said the exam had been delayed as the document verification process could not be completed on schedule. During a subsequent verification round, 125 additional candidates were found eligible to appear for the entrance test, taking the total number of registered candidates to 1,239.The two-hour exam was conducted from noon to 2pm. The 100-mark paper consisted of 50 marks for the general paper and 50 marks for the respective subject. The university also reportedly released the answer key on Saturday evening. However, candidates will not be provided with individual answer keys this year, and the university will proceed with the admission process after completing the remaining formalities.Meanwhile, Gujarat Technological University (GTU) will conduct its PhD entrance test on Sunday. A total of 601 candidates are scheduled to appear for the exam.During its verification process, GTU exempted 64 candidates from the entrance test as they had qualified for NET, SLET or other recognised national-level eligibility exams.
