Gujarat to hire 16,000 gyan sahayaks to bridge primary schoolteacher gap

Ahmedabad: The education department of the Gujarat govt has announced a major recruitment drive to address the shortage of teachers in govt and grant-in-aid primary schools across the state. Under the Samagra Shiksha scheme, about 16,000 gyan sahayaks will be hired on an 11-month contractual basis. The online application process began on Thursday and will remain open until June 17, offering a significant employment opportunity for educated unemployed youth.According to the official notification, the recruitment will cover govt and aided primary schools, model schools, and grant-in-aid ashram schools operating under the tribal development office and the social justice and empowerment department. The maximum age limit for applicants is 48 years, which must be met as of the application deadline. Selection will be strictly merit-based and in line with prescribed eligibility criteria, and candidates are advised to carefully read all instructions before applying.Selected candidates will be assigned at the school level and will receive a fixed monthly salary of Rs 21,000 for the contract period. The appointment will automatically conclude after 11 months. The department aims to complete the recruitment process within a defined timeline.The merit list is expected to be published on June 18, followed by document verification and school allocation at district primary education offices on June 20. Applications will be accepted only through the online mode, and candidates must present original documents, photocopies, and photographs for verification.
