Ahmedabad: Five Gujarat University students have approached police alleging they were cheated after paying Rs 10,000 each as a refundable deposit for an internship that promised a monthly stipend of Rs 15,000.A 20-year-old MSc IT-Fintech student filed a complaint with Gujarat University police, alleging that he and four others were offered a two-month internship by a company advertised on LinkedIn as Algodealer.ai.The students were allegedly issued separate offer letters and worked during the internship period. After completing the two-month course, they asked for their deposits and stipends, but the company owner allegedly kept delaying payment on various pretexts.The students found that no company office existed at the Swastik Crossroads address provided to them. After the students began demanding their money, the owner issued cheques dated June 15 to him and another student from his bank account. The cheques could not be processed after the banks informed the students that the account had been blocked.The company owner later issued another set of cheques dated July 1 from a different bank account, but the students claimed they were again told that the account had been frozen. The complaint also alleges that the owner later deleted the Algodealer.ai profile from LinkedIn.
