Ludhiana: The inauguration of two premier schools of eminence (SOEs) in Millerganj and Kidwai Nagar remains stalled even as all other govt schools across Punjab prepare to reopen on Wednesday following the month-long summer break. Despite missing multiple completion deadlines during the month of June, the education department has failed to provide a definitive launch date, leaving aspiring students and parents in limbo. The delays have persisted since the academic admission cycle in March, when education department officials initially announced that chief minister Bhagwant Mann would inaugurate the institutes. While regular academic sessions subsequently commenced across the state’s standard public schools, operations at these two specialised facilities never began on the ground.Local lawmakers and senior administrative teams have conducted numerous structural site inspections over the past several months without breaking the deadlock. For instance, an official inspection at the Millerganj SOE on February 4 was meant to finalise infrastructure pitched to make the campus a local model for educational excellence.Once operational, the Millerganj facility is slated to offer advanced sports and wellness amenities tailored for holistic student development. These planned premium additions include a specialised terrace badminton court, an indoor table tennis arena, and a dedicated yoga and meditation space.Local educational leadership confirmed that no alternative timeline has been established for the twin projects. Amandeep Singh, deputy district education officer, secondary, said, “There is no update on the inauguration of the Kidwai Nagar and Millerganj SOEs as of now, but the rest of the govt schools are going to be open from tomorrow onwards after the summer break.”
