Shimla: Himachal Pradesh governor Kavinder Gupta has announced a grant of Rs 5 lakh for the construction of ‘Shaheedi Smarak’ (martyrs’ memorial) in Hamirpur.During his interaction with ex-servicemen, he stressed the need to complete the memorial at the earliest and appealed to MPs and MLAs to contribute towards its construction. He said the Shaheedi Smarak would serve as a fitting tribute to the courage and supreme sacrifices of the martyrs.Sainik welfare department director Brigadier Madan Sheel Sharma (retd) briefed the governor on issues faced by ex-servicemen and their families, as well as the status of the pending memorial project. Gupta assured them that their genuine concerns would be taken up with the state govt.The governor also met former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal at his residence in Samirpur and enquired about his health and well-being.
