Bathinda: A young woman was admitted to the de-addiction centre at Civil Hospital, Bathinda, after she was found allegedly under the influence of drugs in the city on Thursday. Police informed her family in Jaito, Faridkot district, following which her mother arrived in Bathinda.A video that went viral on social media showed the woman struggling to stand and repeatedly collapsing to the ground at the Bathinda grain market. The footage quickly became a political flashpoint, with opposition leaders using it to question the state government’s anti-drug campaign, Yudh Nashian Virudh.Congress MLA Pargat Singh said, “I had flagged the issue of drugs being readily available in several parts of the state, particularly Faridkot. My concerns were validated after large quantities of heroin were recovered in multiple operations in Faridkot district over the past few days. Instead of making claims, the government should look at the ground reality.”Responding to the viral video, Bathinda DSP (Special Crime) Karamjit Singh said the woman was found under the influence of drugs and was subsequently admitted to the de-addiction centre at Civil Hospital, Bathinda. He added that her family had been informed and her mother had reached the city.Bathinda Range DIG Harjit Singh confirmed that a PCR team rushed to the spot after the video surfaced and facilitated the woman’s admission to the de-addiction centre.The incident comes amid renewed concern over drug abuse in the region. Earlier, graffiti alleging easy availability of drugs in a village near Bathinda had surfaced, while two youths were recently found dead, with suspected drug abuse being cited as a possible cause.
