Ghaziabad: The district administration has declared a holiday for all schools from classes 1 to 12 on Friday after IMD issued an orange alert for thunderstorms, heavy rain and hailstorm.The order, issued late on Thursday by the district inspector of schools (DIOS) on the directions of the district magistrate, applies to all govt, municipal and recognised schools affiliated with CBSE, ICSE and other boards.The decision follows a day of relentless rain that triggered widespread waterlogging, traffic disruption and flooding across several parts of the city, raising concerns over the safety of students and school transport.In its order, the administration cited IMD’s weather warning and the continuing impact of Thursday’s rainfall. “The meteorological department has issued an orange alert for July 10 in Ghaziabad, indicating the possibility of strong storms, heavy rain and hailstorm. In view of the continuous rainfall since the previous day and to ensure the safe operation of schools and the safety of children, a holiday is declared for Classes 1 to 12 in all municipal, recognised and board-affiliated schools in the district,” the order stated.Schools have been asked to ensure full compliance with the order and not conduct any physical classes on Friday.The administration also urged residents to remain cautious while travelling and avoid waterlogged stretches unless absolutely necessary, as more intense rainfall is expected over the next 24 hours.The closure comes a day after heavy showers disrupted normal life across the district, with several roads inundated and traffic movement severely affected.
