Ghaziabad: Ghaziabad Development Authority has completed a traffic circulation study for the upcoming international cricket stadium in Morti, identifying major traffic bottlenecks and parking requirements for the 40,000-capacity venue. It has identified nearly 69 acres for four parking zones in the vicinity of the stadium. The study notes that roads leading to the stadium — expected to draw spectators from Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Greater Noida, Meerut, Sonipat and Bulandshahr — are currently constrained by multiple T-junctions and multimodal congestion, which is likely to worsen with the stadium traffic influx. The key junctions require a redesign and proper channelisation of traffic. The study also suggests that well-planned entry and exit points are essential to prevent traffic spillback. It has also identified four areas for parking lots that will be located within a 2 to 5 km radius of the stadium.About 2 km from the stadium, 10 hectares have been identified near Aero City in Morta for setting up a premium parking zone. The second parking slot has been identified within a 4 km area of the stadium near City Forest along Bhatta Road, while the third parking lot is within a 4.5 km range near Harnandipuram township. The fourth parking lot near Shaheed Sthal New Bus Adda metro station is 5 km away from the stadium. It already has an operational multi-level parking facility. The study predicts that out of the 40,000 spectators, about 18,000 will arrive in 6,000 cars. Over 8,000 spectators will use 4,000 two-wheelers, which will require 1,333 equivalent car spaces (ECS), while 100 buses will ferry 4,000 spectators from the catchment area, and they will occupy 300 ECS.The study has suggested a 1 km vehicle-free zone around the stadium, allowing only pedestrian access. Wheelchairs for the specially abled and battery-operated golf carts will be provided to ensure last-mile connectivity. There should be dedicated support staff and accessible pathways for seamless movement.“The technical committee under the principal secretary has vetted the proposal, and we will present it to the chief minister soon,” said GDA vice chairperson Nand Kishor Kalal. “We hope that by Diwali this year the work will start, and in 18 months the city will have its cricket stadium.”Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) and GDA are jointly developing the 450-crore stadium project. UPCA has purchased land parcels from farmers for Rs 70 crore, and GDA has facilitated the deals.
