Slug: G’nagar Cops Recover JewelsGandhinagar: A 20-year-old biology student allegedly stole jewellery worth Rs 53.9 lakh to pay for her education, but was arrested at Pathikashram bus station while attempting to flee to her native Madhya Pradesh.Gandhinagar crime branch solved the burglary within days and recovered the entire stolen property. The detection was led by PI K J Rathod, who supervised the investigation using technical analysis and surveillance.The theft occurred at the locked residence of a doctor couple in Sector 4 of Gandhinagar between the afternoon of July 18 and the morning of July 19.When the family returned, they found cupboards ransacked and gold and silver ornaments weighing 563 grams missing. A case of theft was registered at Sector 7 police station.Police examined CCTV footage and tracked the movements of a woman repeatedly seen near the house before and during the theft.Police then circulated her photograph and checked paying-guest accommodation and hostels in the area before tracing her to Pathikashram bus station.She was intercepted while carrying a bag containing the stolen jewellery. During questioning, she allegedly confessed to the burglary.Police said the student had moved to Gandhinagar from Madhya Pradesh to pursue higher studies and was staying at a women’s paying-guest accommodation.She allegedly told cops that financial difficulties had forced her to mortgage one of her gold rings for an education loan, but she was unable to keep up with the monthly repayments.With mounting financial pressure and a need to support her family, she allegedly decided to commit the theft as her private job in Gandhinagar was not paying enough.According to investigators, she had been passing the doctor couple’s residence daily on her way to classes and closely observing their routine.On the night of the burglary, she allegedly climbed onto the rear shed of the house and remained hidden there overnight because the house was locked.The next morning, after the couple returned briefly and left for work, she allegedly entered the house, stole the jewellery from a cupboard and escaped through the main door.
