Ludhiana: A fire broke out at a cloth showroom in Khanna’s congested main market on Thursday morning, engulfing two floors. The stock of clothes and other goods was destroyed in the blaze.The fire broke out at a showroom in Dhobiyan Wali Gali and soon spread across its two floors. Fire brigade teams rushed to the spot after receiving information but could not take their vehicles close to the showroom because of congestion in the market.Sources said firefighters had to arrange water using nearly 500 feet of hoses. By the time they reached the affected structure, a major portion of the showroom had already been gutted. Fire personnel eventually brought the blaze under control after considerable effort.Sources said fire brigade officials accessed the third floor of the house adjoining the showroom and broke through a wall to reach the spot. From there, they doused the flames and helped remove cloth stock from the premises.Fire officer Dilshad Khan said the showroom did not have adequate fire-safety arrangements.The blaze did not spread to nearby shops or adjoining houses. However, residents of houses next to the showroom were alarmed as the place is located close to a residential area.
