Mohali: A new festive trend, “Buy Your Own Ravan”, allows residents to choose their effigies and customise fireworks, turning public spectacles into personal celebrations. From four-foot models to giant ten-foot structures, customisable Ravan effigies sold rapidly across Mohali ahead of Dussehra, mainly along Airport Road.Families buying Ravan effigies could customise them with selected fireworks. Children now have the opportunity to set ablaze their own effigies rather than solely watching public municipal displays.Pratima of Rajpura, who established an effigy stall on Airport Road, said she had introduced the concept from Saharanpur after testing it in Zirakpur. “We have effigies ranging from 4 feet to 10 feet, priced between ₹500 and ₹3,500. We sell them without crackers, allowing buyers to load them with crackers of their choice,” she said.Demand has depleted stock quickly, with effigies priced between ₹500 and ₹1,500 selling out first. Only larger models, priced at ₹2,500 and ₹3,500, remained at the stall by Tuesday. For local families, the offering provides a novel way to celebrate with children. Mohali resident Amarjit Singh bought effigies after his children spotted the display.“They insisted that we buy their own Ravan to burn on Dussehra. To fulfil their wish, I bought two 10-foot effigies after bargaining for ₹6,300,” Amarjit Singh said, adding that his children will select which fireworks to insert inside the structures.
