Bengaluru: The Food safety wing of the department of Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted a special inspection at Chairman’s Club in Sahakaranagar (Dollars Colony) Thursday.Officials found 40kg of expired chilli stored as a food product. They also found 5kg of breadcrumbs and 2kg of Sajeera food products with improper labelling that did not comply with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) regulations.The inspection also revealed highly unhygienic conditions in the food preparation and storage areas, along with the use or storage of unauthorised/prohibited artificial colours in food products. The club was not following prescribed food-safety measures for the storage and handling of food items.Another violation flagged by the inspection team was the storage of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food products together. Alleging serious deficiencies, officials closed and seized the club kitchen and initiated legal action.Notices issued to 23 PGsFollowing multiple complaints, a special investigation drive was conducted at paying guest (PG) accommodations across the city Friday and notices were issued to 23 PGs for alleged hygiene lapses.During the drive, officials inspected 64 PGs, collected a total of 12 food samples and sent for laboratory analysis.Items like expired curd, bisibelebath powder, rice flour, synthetic food colour, black pepper and misbranded mixture were seized.At Nandana Elite PG in Bommasandra, officials found bed-bug powder kept on the dining table along with food articles. Unused and non-food-related materials were also found stored in an area where drinking water facilities were provided. Following the observations, the department sealed the dining area.Vidhana Soudha found cleanThe food safety department inspected the pantry of the Cabinet Hall at Vidhana Soudha during a cabinet meeting Thursday at 11am. The department said no problems were found and everything was found well-maintained.Officials checked the cleanliness and sanitation of the pantry. Under food storage and labelling, officials verified whether all food items were clearly labelled with their manufacturing and expiry dates. The inspection also covered pest and waste control, including checks for signs of pests, rodents and droppings.
