Kota: Some unidentified assailants allegedly attacked an elderly couple with sharp weapons while they were asleep at their house in Kajalia village under Ayana police station in Kota early Tuesday, police said.The woman, identified as Kamalibai (70), was declared dead at the hospital, while her husband, Chunnilal, remained under treatment at MBS Hospital in Kota.The incident came to light Tuesday morning when a milkman reached the house and found the couple critically injured, SHO at Ayana police station Raghuveer Singh said.On report of the crime, the police rushed to the spot and transported the two to a local hospital, where doctors declared the elderly woman dead and referred her husband with critical injuries to MBS Hospital in Kota, he said.Some unidentified assailants allegedly barged into the house around 2am and attacked the sleeping couple with sharp weapons before fleeing from the scene, he further said. However, the house was fully covered and the main gate was bolted from inside. It was yet to be found out how the accused managed to enter the house, he added.The attack was not meant for robbery as no household item and valuables were found missing while the elderly woman was found wearing her gold jewellery, the SHO said.The elderly couple lived alone in the house for the past some months as their daughter and son-in-law, who earlier accompanied them, had left the place in a dispute over land Chunnilal owned, he said.The actual reason behind the fatal assault on the couple was yet to be ascertained, he said.The police lodged a case of murder against unidentified accused and handed over the body to a family member after postmortem on Tuesday noon.Injured Chunnilal was under treatment at MBS Hospital in Kota and his condition was stated to be out of danger, he added.
