Aizawl: An Election Commission of India (ECI) official on Thursday urged Mizoram residents to actively participate in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 of electoral rolls, stressing that every eligible voter in the state should be included in the electoral database.Interacting with journalists at the Aizawl Press Club, ECI deputy director (media) Apurva Kumar Singh described the SIR as a nationwide exercise aimed at updating electoral rolls to keep them accurate, clean and reliable. Mizoram is among the states covered under Phase III of the revision programme, which is currently underway.Singh said the enumeration phase in Mizoram began on May 30, with booth level officers (BLOs) conducting house-to-house visits to distribute, collect and verify enumeration forms. The exercise is intended to ensure that all eligible Indian citizens are enrolled and that no eligible voter is left out.The ECI official said the revision exercise is being conducted in accordance with constitutional provisions and laws governing the preparation and revision of electoral rolls.Singh, who visited Reiek earlier in the day to oversee field activities and review the implementation of the revision process, expressed satisfaction with the progress of the programme.During his visit, Singh met BLOs and reviewed their work. He encouraged officials to document and archive photographs and videos of field activities, and urged them to make greater use of local influencers and community leaders to enhance public awareness and participation. Singh also visited several households in Reiek village and personally inspected the door-to-door verification work being undertaken by BLOs.The deputy director commended the chief electoral officer and election machinery in the state, including district election officers, electoral registration officers, BLOs and media personnel, for their efforts in implementing the exercise.Responding to queries from journalists, Singh explained voter eligibility norms, enrolment and correction procedures, registration of newly eligible voters and the role of political parties in the revision process.Singh appealed to residents to submit accurate forms promptly and urged the media to support awareness campaigns. He commended the state election machinery for their dedication in ensuring no eligible citizen is left out.Emphasising the importance of public awareness, he appealed to residents to submit their enumeration forms within the stipulated timeframe and fill them out accurately. He also called on the media to continue supporting election officials by disseminating accurate information about the SIR.
