Guwahati: Parents of a missing college student began a hunger strike on the Kumar Bhaskar Varma bridge on Monday, demanding justice and a thorough investigation.Surajit Rajbongshi, a fourth-semester student of RG Baruah College, Fatasil Ambari, has been missing since June 29. He reportedly worked as a delivery executive with a quick-commerce company to support his family.His father, Suren Rajbongshi, said Surajit’s motorcycle and helmet were found near their residence in the Segunbari-Shivanandapur area of Fatasil Ambari after his disappearance. However, there has been no trace of him since.The family approached Fatasil police, but Suren alleged that they received no satisfactory response despite nearly two months passing since Surajit’s disappearance.The couple went on a hunger strike on the bridge, which connects Guwahati and North Guwahati, urging authorities to intensify the search and determine what happened to their only son.A police team from Bharalumukh police station reached the spot soon after the protest began and took the couple to the police station. They reportedly fell ill during the protest and were later taken to a hospital.The family has demanded that Surajit be traced and has sought a thorough investigation and clarification of the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.Police said a search operation was underway based on the missing-person complaint.
