New Delhi: What began as a claim of a gunpoint robbery ended with the complainant himself behind bars after Delhi Police recovered the “stolen” Rs 5 lakh hidden under the bonnet of his own car.According to police, a PCR call was received Friday at the KNK Marg police station, alleging that a bag containing the money was robbed at gunpoint by three unidentified persons travelling in an SUV near an apartment in Sector-26, Rohini. The caller, 42-year-old Gurnaam Singh, told cops that he is a driver and helper at a spare parts workshop at Kashmere Gate for a decade. He claimed that his employer had asked him to collect the money from the workshop and deliver the amount to Sector 14, Rohini. The probe found no evidence of a Thar SUV tailing the complainant. Police recovered the cloth bag from beneath the bonnet, tied near the battery compartment. When confronted with the evidence, Singh allegedly confessed that he had fabricated the robbery story after concealing the cash. He further disclosed that he was facing financial difficulties and had made a false PCR call.
