‘Don’t interrupt while I am speaking’: Heated argument breaks out between Rajasthan MLA and civic officer during meeting

BHARATPUR: A review meeting of the Bayana Municipal Council in Rajasthan‘s Bharatpur district witnessed a heated exchange between independent MLA Ritu Banawat and executive officer Anita Kumari, officials familiar with the matter said on Saturday.The confrontation began when Banawat raised several civic and administrative issues during the meeting. The discussion later escalated into a verbal spat between the MLA and the municipal officer, officials said.According to a report by PTI, the situation worsened after Kumari objected to Banawat’s remarks about certain individuals who were allegedly intervening during the proceedings. Banawat had asked those individuals not to interrupt while she was speaking.According to officials, the executive officer questioned why the individuals had been asked to leave the meeting room and allegedly told the MLA that they were like family to her.Officials said Banawat replied that indiscipline and disrespect would not be tolerated.People present at the meeting intervened and eventually brought the situation under control.After the incident, Banawat lodged a complaint against the executive officer with urban development and housing minister Jhabar Singh Kharra, the Bharatpur divisional commissioner and the district collector.Officials said disciplinary action will be initiated against the officer.(With inputs from PTI)
