Ahmedabad: A team of paediatric surgeons at Civil Hospital removed a peanut from the windpipe of an eight-month-old child. Officials said the child was brought with respiratory issues. A bronchoscopy revealed the peanut lodged in the windpipe. It was removed during the same procedure. In another instance, an 18-month-old girl was brought in with a piece of betel nut lodged in her throat.“Timely intervention is required to ensure that the child does not develop complications, including respiratory issues and incessant coughing. Parents should keep tiny things out of reach of children as they tend to put such objects in their mouths,” said a senior official.
