Gurgaon: Residents of Sector 14 have been navigating damaged internal roads as potholes and waterlogging have made travel hazardous.The road near the sector’s main entrance has remained damaged for a long time. Residents said the stretch, constructed around three years ago, deteriorated because of poor-quality work. A complaint was also filed through the CM Window, but residents said the issue was not resolved. “Sector 14 road has become a nightmare for us. The road is filled with potholes and whenever it rains, the entire stretch gets flooded, making it impossible to see where the potholes are. Every journey becomes a dangerous exercise of guessing where the next deep pothole will be,” a resident said.Another resident said the condition was especially difficult for people who use the stretch regularly. “As I travel this road daily with my pregnant wife, the constant jerks and sudden braking are extremely difficult for her to bear. We are not asking for luxury, but just a safe, motorable road. The authorities need to act fast,” he said.Residents said minor patchwork was carried out around three months ago, but it was only a temporary measure.MCG has awarded the contract for the resurfacing of the sector’s internal 18-metre roads. However, the road work will have to be coordinated with planned utility works, including the laying of a new water line and drainage. In the absence of timely repairs, residents earlier used construction debris generated in the sector to fill some potholes as a temporary measure.“We have been informed by MCG that the contract has been awarded for road resurfacing. But the new water line and drainage work have to be laid first, after which the roads will be constructed. We have requested the road contractor and an MCG official to temporarily repair the badly damaged portions near Gate 5 and the Lady Fatima School road at Gate 3 to make the stretches motorable until the planned resurfacing and utility works are completed,” said Vikas Verma, RWA president of Sector 14.Meanwhile, a senior official of MCG said the work has been allotted for the resurfacing of internal roads in Sector 14. “Water pipeline and drainage work will be started soon and we aim to complete the road resurfacing by Nov.”
