Bengaluru: Prison authorities’ decision to shift imprisoned former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna to Hindalga prison in Belagavi was withheld at the last moment Friday.Prior to this, a decision to shift nine convicts from Bengaluru central prison, including Prajwal Revanna, to different jails had been announced. The decision had been made based on a request made by Bengaluru police who had, during raids, recovered mobile phones, sim cards and other electronic items from the convicts, including Prajwal.Director general of police (prisons and correctional services) Alok Kumar told TOI that the decision to shift Prajwal to Hindalga was cancelled at the last moment. “Yes, we had decided to shift Prajwal and eight others to different prisons on the request made by the city police. Prajwal’s shifting to Hindalga was cancelled at the last moment as there is no deputy inspector general (DIG) of prisons. Convicts like Prajwal facing such allegations should be monitored closely under the supervision of a DIG. Therefore, we cancelled it. However, eight others will be shifted accordingly,” he said.Hindalga prison is monitored by the DIG (northern range). However, DIG Somashekhar was arrested last week on alleged charges of releasing a life convict after producing fake Supreme Court documents. Also, Somashekhar was accused of sexually exploiting the wife of the convict, who was rearrested this July.
