Noida: As darkness settles over parts of Sectors 122 and 43, residents say faulty streetlights are leaving them to navigate poorly lit roads and parks, raising concerns over safety, particularly at night. In Sector 122, streetlights in A-Block, Tikona Park and Golchakkar Park have remained non-functional for more than six days, according to residents. They fear the lack of lighting could make the area vulnerable to theft and other anti-social activities, with women, children and elderly residents among those most at risk.Shiv Kumar Tiwari, president of the Sector 122 RWA, raised the issue in a letter to RP Singh, general manager of Noida Authority’s electrical department, seeking immediate repairs.Tiwari said residents had repeatedly complained to junior engineer Rajiv Yadav but received assurances without any visible action. Frustrated by the delay, he warned that residents may hold sit-ins and demonstrations if the faulty lights are not repaired.“The situation has become extremely critical and intolerable. There is widespread resentment and anger among the sector’s residents regarding this negligence. If all faulty streetlights are not repaired immediately, residents will be compelled to register their protest through sit-ins, demonstrations, and other democratic means,” he said. The problem is not limited to Sector 122. Deepak Sharma, president of the Sector 43 RWA, said streetlights in several parts of the sector were also not working.“We have complained earlier, but there’s no redress so far,” Sharma said.RP Singh, general manager, electrical department, Noida Authority assured residents that the matter would be addressed. Tiwari, however, urged the Authority to prioritise repairs of streetlights and high-mast lights and fix responsibility for the delay.
