Cyber fraud gang busted, 2 arrested

Varanasi: Cyber Crime Team of Varanasi police commissionerate on Wednesday arrested two cyber criminals and busted the gang involved in withdrawing money fraudulently from people’s bank accounts . Mobile phones used in the crime, forged fabricated Aadhaar cards and cash were recovered. According to police, Shivdatt Harijan, resident of Ballia, living in Police Lines, had filed a complaint at Cyber Crime police station on May 24 stating that Rs. 12 lakh had been siphoned from his bank account through cyber fraud. A special team was constituted under supervision of ACP Cyber Crime Vidush Saxena. The team acted swiftly and arrested two accused from Varanasi. Those arrested were identified as Surendra Kumar, resident of Mohammadabad Ghazipur and Vinay Kumar, resident of Ballia. Police investigation revealed that the gang first duplicated SIM cards linked to people’s bank account mobile numbers in the name of update. The accused activated UPI apps and subsequently, using forged Aadhaar cards and fake identity documents and withdrew cash from various CSP centres and divided it among themselves. Police registered case against the accused under various sections.
