Lucknow: Panic gripped Jodhanpurwa village in Hardoi on Friday after a crude hand grenade wrapped in a plastic bag was found outside a house. A bomb disposal squad later transported the explosive to Lucknow for examination.According to police, the grenade was discovered in a field adjoining the house of Satish Kumar. He told police that someone had allegedly thrown the polythene-wrapped object into the field during the night. His son brought it home and, when the family opened the package on Friday morning, they found what appeared to be a hand grenade.A neighbour, Neeraj Shukla, also examined the suspected explosive.The discovery triggered panic in the village and drew a large crowd to the spot. A Dial 112 emergency response team and Harpalpur police reached the location within minutes and cordoned off the area. A fire service team was also deployed.Police later took possession of the object and secured it at Harpalpur police station.A four-member bomb disposal squad arrived at the police station late Friday evening and transported the grenade to Lucknow for detailed examination.Bomb disposal squad team leader Bhola Nath Tripathi said the hand grenade was manufactured in 1999.Police are investigating how the grenade reached the village and who was responsible for leaving or throwing it near the house.
