Cross border smuggling module busted, 4 held with arms TIMES NEWS NETWORKAmritsar: The Amritsar commissionerate police claims to have busted across-border illegal arms and narcotics smuggling module with the arrest offour persons and recovery of five sophisticated .30 bore pistols, 2kgheroin, and Rs 5 lakh drug money. This was stated by commissioner of police (CP)Gurpreet Singh Bhullar while talking to media persons here on Monday.Those arrested have been identified as 20-year-old Bittu Kumar alias Bhaiya of Amritsar, 21-year-old Sahib Singh of Dhagana village and presently residing at Fateh Singh Colony in Amritsar, 22-year-old SanjeevKumar alias Nannu of Tarn Taran, and 22-year-old Sandeep Singh alias Sunny of Chhiddan village in Amritsar.Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were involved in cross-border smuggling of illegal weapons and narcotics.Further investigation is underway to establish the forward and backward linkages of the network and identify all associates involved in the cartel, Bhullar said.He added that acting on reliable intelligence, police teams first arrested accused Bittu alias Bhaiya and Sahib Singh, and one pistol was recovered from their possession, while, two more pistols were recovered later on the basis of their disclosure statements.**During investigation, both accused disclosed that they were also involved in cross-border drug smuggling activities, he said, adding that acting on their disclosures, Police teams arrested two more accused identified as Sanjeev Kumar alias Nannu and Sandeep alias Sunny and recovered 2kg heroin along with Rs 5 lakh drug money from them. During further investigation, police teams recovered two more pistols on the basis of the disclosure statement made by accused Sandeepalias Sunny, he added.The commissioner of police said Bittu alias Bhaiya was wanted in several criminal cases pertaining to the Arms Act and theft. *A case under the Arms Act and the NDPS Act have been registered at Sadar Amritsar police station, said Bhullar.
