Varanasi: Commissioner of police (CP) Mohit Agrawal, during a review meeting on Monday, directed the cybercrime cell to trace the networks of cyber criminals and fraudsters following arrests in digital fraud cases.He asked officers to identify and prosecute those arranging or operating mule accounts, withdrawing cheated money, issuing fake SIM cards, running fake call centres and using ATMs to move fraud proceeds.The CP also directed zonal cyber in-charges to review complaints, action taken against the accused and pending matters every 15 days, and ensure transparent registration, investigation and prompt disposal of cases.Agrawal said policing in Varanasi must keep pace with changing patterns of cybercrime through the use of technical tools, cyber intelligence and swift action against entire gangs, including facilitators.Officials informed him that Varanasi cybercrime police have busted 58 cybercrime gangs and arrested 277 accused. In five digital arrest cases, 36 accused were arrested and cash worth about Rs 1.20 crore, mobile phones, four-wheelers and digital devices were recovered.They added that 15 illegal call centres were unearthed and 175 persons were arrested in cases involving investment fraud, cheating of foreign nationals and job scams.
