Pune: A 48-year-old courier firm owner from Sadashiv Peth lost Rs 45 lakh to cybercrooks over the promise of high returns on investments in the stock market and cryptocurrency.This took place in June this year. Khadak police registered a case on Thursday.A police officer said, while looking for a business software online, the complainant came across a form of a trading company. After filling in his details, he received a call. The caller explained the company’s trading app and helped him open an account. “He assured him of high returns on investments in stocks and cryptocurrency,” the officer said.The complainant invested Rs 11 lakh in the stock market and Rs 34 lakh in cryptocurrency. Upon trying to withdraw his cryptocurrency investment, the accused asked him to deposit more money. The complainant then realised he was being duped and asked the caller to meet him in person. The accused shared an address, but when he reached the location, there was someone else living there.“The complainant then approached the police and lodged a complaint,” the officer said.
