Lucknow: Samajwadi Party’s chief spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary was on Friday afternoon rushed to the Civil Hospital following complaints of chest pain and restlessness.Doctors said the 77-year-old SP functionary suffered a cardiac arrest.“He was brought in an unconscious state. He had suffered a massive heart attack and cardiac arrest. We immediately shifted him to the Intensive Care Unit where cardiologists and the critical care team performed CPR and put him on ventilatory support. After nearly two hours of treatment, his condition stabilised and he was referred to the Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences for advanced cardiac care. His vital parameters were stable at the time of transfer,” said Dr GP Gupta, director, Civil Hospital.SP president Akhilesh Yadav also arrived upon receiving the information. He remained in the hospital throughout the treatment. Chaudhary, a former minister hailing from western Uttar Pradesh, has been one of the prominent faces of the party since the days of late Mulayam Singh Yadav.Deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak also visited the hospital and exchanged courtesies with Akhilesh in a sombre atmosphere. They sat next to each other till Chaudhary’s condition stabilised. Later, speaking to reporters, Pathak assured that best treatment was being extended to Chaudhary while praying for his speedy recovery.Head of cardiology at RML Institute, Dr Bhuvan Tewari, told TOI that Chaudhary would remain under observation for at least 24 hours even though he was brought in a stable condition.
