Cong protests over law & order, civic issues in Mohali

Mohali: The Mohali Congress Monday staged a protest at Jawahar Nagar to express solidarity with Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring and leader of opposition Partap Singh Bajwa, while alleging a deterioration in law and order and civic services in the city.The demonstration was led by former minister Balbir Singh Sidhu and former mayor Amarjit Singh Sidhu. Addressing the gathering, Balbir Sidhu alleged that Jawahar Nagar and surrounding areas had witnessed a rise in drug trafficking, thefts and robberies, creating fear among residents. He accused the Punjab govt and police of failing to curb crime.Sidhu also claimed that development works in Mohali had slowed, citing poor roads, sewerage issues, sanitation problems, inadequate healthcare and a lack of basic civic amenities. He alleged that repeated complaints had failed to yield results.The Congress leaders demanded strict action against criminal elements and said the party would continue to raise public issues until effective measures were taken. Former mayor Amarjit Singh Sidhu and other leaders also addressed the protest.Residents join CongressBalbir Singh Sidhu welcomed several residents from Jujhar Nagar and nearby areas into the Congress fold, claiming dissatisfaction with the AAP government had prompted many to switch allegiance.He said the party remained committed to public welfare and assured new entrants of opportunities to serve people and contribute to Mohali’s development.
