Pune: The Unesco Chair at World Peace University, Goa, has called for the establishment of a World Value-based Universal Education Management Council to develop an education system combining science and spirituality, while a dialogue on Oct 15 unanimously adopted a resolution seeking stricter environmental laws, better water management and protection of Goa’s historical sites. The resolution was passed at the ‘Dialogue of Social Institutions, Sects and Interfaith of Goa for Long-term Development and World Peace’, organised jointly by World Peace University, Goa, and its Unesco Chair. It also called for coordinated efforts to curb rising violence, prevent land degradation, tighten noise pollution controls in rural and urban areas, and promote sustainable development in the state.Goa Governor Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, who inaugurated the conference, said education must focus on building responsible citizens and fostering tolerance across religions. “In the present times, we have learned to unite territories, but we have failed to unite people’s hearts. If we follow the principle of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, peace will prevail all over the world,” he said, appealing for collective efforts towards world peace and sustainable development.“Justice, non-violence and respect for all are the principles of all religions and it is the very essence of humanity. Everyone should work with this thought. Democracy is the foundation of human dignity. In present times, an education system based on tolerance of all religions is needed everywhere. It is necessary to achieve sustainable development by conserving the environment,” Governor said.Rahul Vishwanath Karad, executive president of the university, said Goa should be recognised for its academic potential and contribution to sustainable development, beyond its identity as a tourist destination.“Although Goa is known as a tourist destination, it is also a congregation of scholars. It is also an important centre in the world for sustainable development. How to bring education of equality of all religions into the education system is an important thought. This will bring peace and stability in society,” he said.Karad said education shaped society and that the university aimed to promote social responsibility through multidisciplinary learning.Prof Vishwanath D Karad, founder president of the university and head of its Unesco Chair, said the institution was working to spread the message of world peace through education combining science and spirituality.“A student should be physically fit, mentally alert and spiritually elevated,” he said in an online address.
