Gurgaon: Civil Hospital is set to get a dedicated trauma care facility with specialised infrastructure for emergency and surgical treatment.A key component of the principal govt hospital in Sector 10 will be its medical gas system. The planned oxygen manifold will have two banks, each capable of accommodating 16 cylinders. An oxygen manifold is a specialised system of pipes, valves and regulators that links multiple gas cylinders together. The facility assumes importance because the city does not have a separate civil hospital, leaving the Sector 10 hospital to cater to a large share of the city’s govt healthcare needs. For patients dependent on the public health system, particularly those requiring emergency treatment after road crashes and other serious injuries, having specialised trauma infrastructure within the hospital could reduce dependence on referrals to other centres. The facility, therefore, represents an important addition to the infrastructure of Sector 10 hospital, but its eventual impact will depend on how the physical facility is supported with clinical services.“The facility will have ductable air conditioning with HEPA filters, air curtains and pneumatic doors. The specifications also provide for infrastructure associated with an operation theatre, including sealed and insulated internal ducting and a medical-grade electrical isolation system to detect faults in individual circuits,” said a doctor. An automatic changeover system will switch the oxygen supply to the reserve bank when the primary bank is exhausted, ensuring that supply does not stop during the changeover. The system will also provide visual and audible alerts when a cylinder bank is depleted. The proposed infrastructure is designed to create a controlled environment for trauma and surgical care.HEPA filtration, specialised doors and air curtains are among the systems being provided as part of the facility. The operation theatre will also have specialised electrical safety infrastructure. The specifications provide for an electrical isolation panel capable of detecting leakage and faults in individual circuits, with the system linked to the theatre control panel.Though the city’s population has swelled over the last decade, healthcare facilities and infrastructure have not kept pace. Private hospitals are too expensive and there is just one multi-speciality govt-run Civil Hospital in Sector 10 for a large chunk of the city’s residents.
