Kolkata: In an extraordinary display of musical talent, 11-year-old Yashmita Dutta from Kolkata has entered the Guinness Book of World Records for identifying the highest number of musical chords in one minute.Dutta also secured a place in the India Book of Records by identifying 39 musical notes and 20 chords in a total time of 2 minutes and 2 seconds in 2025.“I am so happy and proud because I worked incredibly hard for this,” Dutta said. Her achievement came through regular practice and discipline. “My secret was sticking to my routine, following it exactly, and making sure I practiced every morning,” she added.Dutta credited her music teacher, Saubhik Kundu, and her parents for her success. Her father, Ekanistha, played a key role when her teacher fell ill. Using his IT background, he created custom randomization software to help her practice in a test-like environment.“Seeing her talent recognized globally is a dream come true,” he said. He added, “Yashmita had difficulty speaking since birth, and the family had planned speech therapy for her. But when she started humming songs, they noticed that music helped her speak more clearly. After that, he and his wife, Koel, encouraged her to learn music. The true credit goes to her dedication.”Yashmita has also been among the top 30 contestants on Sony’s Superstar Singer. She is a child artist with All India Radio, Kolkata, and was the second runner-up in Aakashe Superstar.“My dream is to work with A R Rahman sir one day,” Yashmita said.
