Chd police team gets source money for cracking cashier’s murder case

Times News NetworkChandigarh: The police team that solved the murder case of Janki Das, cashier at Shri Kumar Chemist Shop in Sector-11, was honoured for the first time under a new initiative by being given source money, along with reward money.DGP Sagar Preet Hooda honoured about 80 police personnel who played an important role in the case, from tracing the accused to their arrest. These included officers and employees from the police station, as well as the Crime Branch, Operation Cell, technical and other investigation units. They were honoured at a ceremony held in Police Lines.Police personnel received cash awards and source money of Rs 20,000 each. Besides, each official received reward money of Rs 30,000 each and a first class certificate. In-charges of various units received reward money of Rs 50,000 each.Possibly for the first time in the police department, police personnel have received source money on successfully solving a case. Officials said the move aimed at developing a better intelligence network and encouraging personnel to strengthen the informer system.According to police officials, the purpose of source money was to encourage police personnel to develop a strong informer system and gather intelligence inputs during the investigation of serious cases.DGP Sagar Preet Hooda commended the coordination displayed by all units in solving the case.He noted that despite having limited clues, the police team managed to reach the accused and solve the case on the basis of technical evidence, informer network, and scientific investigation.
