Lucknow: Burglars broke into the locked house of a doctor in Viram Khand under the Gomti Nagar police station limits and allegedly stole jewellery worth ₹40-50 lakh, cash, bank documents and the key to a bank locker while the family was away on a pilgrimage, police said on Sunday.According to the FIR, the complainant, Dr Nishant Jaiswal, a medical officer posted in Kasganj district, had travelled to Trimbakeshwar in Nashik with his family on July 12. His wife and son live at the Viram Khand residence in Lucknow.The family returned home on Sunday and found the house ransacked. The burglars allegedly searched wardrobes and bed storage compartments before fleeing with valuables.The stolen items include four gold bangles, 10 pairs of earrings, seven rings, three gold chains, six pairs of silver anklets, a silver lota, silver idols of Lakshmi and Ganesha, a 12-gram silver ring, ₹50,000 in cash and other valuables. The total value of the stolen jewellery is estimated at ₹40-50 lakh, according to the complainant.Dr Jaiswal also alleged in the FIR that the burglars took away bank passbooks, cheque books, important banking documents and the key to the family’s bank locker, raising concerns about the security of assets kept in the locker.SHO Gomti Nagar BC Tiwari said that a case has been registered at Gomti Nagar police station on Dr Jaiswal’s complaint. Police said they are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area and investigating the burglary to identify those involved.
