Ghaziabad: Residents of Shalimar Garden have urged GMC to urgently improve maintenance of the locality’s 18 parks, citing overgrown grass, poor waste disposal, and inadequate cleaning. They also highlighted missing benches, faulty lighting, and broken play equipment. Additionally, waterlogging around children’s play areas has raised serious safety and health concerns.Resident Pradeep Gupta wrote a letter to the GMC commissioner, highlighting these issues. He also pointed out the absence of essential facilities, such as benches, proper lighting, and maintenance of play equipment, all of which have fallen into disrepair.“Residents have expressed frustration over the lack of irrigation and drainage systems, resulting in stagnant water and further jeopardising the parks’ usability. In several parks, benches, lights, pathways, open gyms, and other facilities are damaged and require repair,” said Gupta.“As members of this community, we desire a safe and pleasant environment to enjoy with our families. We hope the authorities will respond promptly to improve the situation of the parks in the area,” said Devrat Tiwari, another resident of the area.Gupta, meanwhile, demanded an immediate joint inspection of all 18 parks in Shalimar Garden to tackle the ongoing deficiencies. He stressed the need for regular upkeep, including timely grass cutting, fresh plantation drives, and adequate dustbin availability. Urging municipal authorities to act swiftly in the public interest, he warned that further delay would only worsen the situation.As residents await GMC’s response on the matter, they remain hopeful that better park amenities will soon bring tangible improvements to their neighbourhood.
