Varanasi: The boat operations on Ganga, suspended for the past few days due to bad weather and a rise in water level, were resumed from Wednesday following an improvement in weather conditions and the river’s water level.The decision to suspend the boat operations was taken by the Jal Police after discussions with the NDRF and senior officials, in view of the safety of passengers and their property.Additional district magistrate (Finance/Revenue) Sadanand Gupta stated that, according to the Central Water Commission, the water level of Ganga in the district was recorded at 63.61 metres at 8 am on Wednesday. In Varanasi district, the warning level of Ganga is fixed at 70.26 metres, the danger level at 71.26 metres, and the highest flood level (HFL) at 73.90 metres.Gupta said that on Aug 11, the water level of Ganga was recorded at 63.71 metres, which is 6.50 metres below the warning level. This indicates that the current water level of Ganga is completely normal, and there is no flood situation at present.
