Noida: Scores of two-wheeler riders travelling from Greater Noida West to Sector 52 metro station are using an illegal shortcut across a green strip along Vikas Marg during peak morning hours.Between 8 am and 10 am, office-goers and bike taxi riders are regularly seen leaving the main carriageway through a small opening in the road divider just before the Parthala bridge and riding across the unpaved green strip separating the carriageway from the service lane. The route allows commuters to bypass traffic congestion on the busy stretch and rejoin the service road leading towards the metro station.The strip, intended as a buffer between the two roads, has gradually turned into an unofficial thoroughfare. Repeated movement of motorcycles has worn down patches of the green belt, leaving muddy tracks and damaged vegetation. Parts of it are strewn with garbage.The strip is rarely used by pedestrians, but those who do use it are exposed to passing two-wheelers.With no direct Metro connectivity, residents of Greater Noida West rely heavily on Blue Line’s Sector 52 metro station to reach their workplaces in Delhi and beyond, which often leads to heavy congestion on Vikas Marg during office hours, a resident said. Though the violations take place in full public view, traffic personnel posted near the end of the stretch allow riders to continue without intervention.DCP (traffic) Abhay Kumar Mishra said the traffic police will write to the Greater Noida Authority to close the illegal road cut. “Whenever an illegal cut comes to our notice, we immediately write to the Authority to have it closed or take corrective action. Many such illegal cuts have been closed in the past,” Mishra said.
